How It Works for Tutors

Here's exactly what happens from applying to getting paid for your first lesson.

1. Apply and build your profile
Sign up as a tutor and complete your profile: bio, contact info, state of residence, SAT/ACT scores, education, a profile photo, and an intro video.
2. Get vetted
Accept the Independent Tutor Agreement and, if you'd like, add an optional background check through Checkr, a reputable and trusted screening provider. We'll email you for the details we need and process it within 5 business days.
3. Set your rate and packages
Choose your own hourly rate and build multi-session packages at whatever price you want. You control your availability and which subjects you teach.
4. Get discovered
Students find you through subject search and filters. Your listing shows your rating, reviews, and intro video, so students know what they're booking.
5. Teach and get paid
Deliver lessons, mark sessions complete, and get paid out on your dashboard's schedule. For a 20% platform fee, Newton Exam handles:
- Student discovery and matching
- Scheduling and booking
- Online payments
- Session reminders
- Zoom/Google Meet session verification
- Parent communication
- Session records
- Reviews and tutor reputation
- Payment collection and payouts
- Background verification (via Checkr)
- Platform support
Everything else is yours.
