Privacy Policy

1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains what information Newton Exam LLC(“Newton Exam,” “we,” or “us”) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to students, tutors, and visitors who use the Newton Exam website.
2. Information We Collect
Account and profile information: name, email address, password (or sign-in via Google, Facebook, or Apple), phone number, state of residence, profile photo, and — for tutors — bio, SAT/ACT scores, education history, and an intro video.
Documents you upload: credential documents such as score reports or degree verification, and practice test score reports that students upload and choose to share with specific tutors, stored through our file storage provider.
Practice test and progress data: the scores you enter for practice tests you upload, and, for tutors, session and package history.
Payment information: processed directly by Stripe, our payment processor. Newton Exam does not store your full card number.
Background check information:for tutors who opt in, Checkr performs a background check. The personal information the check requires, such as Social Security number, date of birth, and address, is collected directly by Checkr; Newton Exam doesn’t collect or keep any of it. Checkr only shares the result status with us so we can display a verification badge.
Messages and reviews: messages you send through the Platform and any reviews you post.
Usage data: basic analytics about how the site is used, collected through Vercel Analytics.
What we don’t collect: we don’t keep personal information we don’t need to run the Platform. We never ask for your full home address (we keep only your state of residence) and we never store Social Security numbers. When a tutor sets up payouts or opts into a background check, Stripe and Checkr collect identity and bank details such as SSN, date of birth, and bank account number directly through their own secure forms; Newton Exam does not receive or store them.
3. How We Use Information
We use this information to operate the Platform: creating and securing your account, matching students with tutors, processing payments and payouts, enabling messaging and scheduling, sending transactional emails (such as receipts, password resets, and new-message notifications), reviewing tutor applications, improving the Platform, and complying with legal obligations.
4. How We Share Information
Between users:a tutor’s public profile information (name, photo, bio, subjects, rate, reviews) is visible to prospective students. A student’s name and messages are visible to the tutor they book with.
Service providers: we share information with the vendors that power the Platform, including Stripe (payments), Checkr (background checks), Resend (transactional email), our cloud hosting and file storage providers, and Google, Facebook, or Apple if you use one of those to sign in.
Legal reasons: we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Newton Exam or our users.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Data Retention
We retain account and transaction information for as long as your account is active and as needed to comply with legal, tax, and accounting obligations. If you close your account, we deactivate it and retain the minimum information necessary for these purposes.
6. Your Choices and Rights
You can review and update most of your account and profile information directly from your dashboard. You can close your account at any time from your account settings. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information — contact us to make a request.
7. Children's Privacy
Newton Exam is intended for use by students preparing for the SAT or ACT, typically high school students, with the involvement of a parent or guardian for account creation and payment. Newton Exam does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information without consent, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted password storage and encrypted connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Cookies and Analytics
We use cookies to keep you signed in and to remember basic preferences, and we use Vercel Analytics to understand aggregate usage of the Platform. This data does not include the content of your messages or the documents you upload.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice, such as by posting the update on this page.
11. Contact
